Housecat Poster by Rop van Mierlo

Poster from Amsterdam

Sold out

A dear friend of mine, illustrator Rop van Mierlo, has created a marvelous poster (A1 portrait) especially for Found by James. Rop brought me a Housecat, wonderfully illustrated and with a lovely twist, also teasing me because I am never at home.

I am proud of Rop winning this year’s Dutch Design Award (Best Graphic Design) with his book ‘Wild Animals’.

Prior to the award ceremony (22nd of October in Eindhoven, also the start of the Dutch Design Week 2011) Rop created the poster for my website. I offer a very limited run of only 9 numbered prints, referring to the 9 lives of a cat. Each piece is printed on high quality paper (Giclée print on German Etching 310 gsm paper), uniquely numbered and signed by the artist.

This poster is Rop’s only work in between his first Dutch Design Award winning book and his promising upcoming second.

Rop’s graduation from Design Academy Eindhoven in 2008 has yielded impressive work. His book ‘Wild Animals’ with vivid illustrations is currently worldwide available, from the MOMA in NYC to Palais de Tokyo & Colette in Paris and all the Paul Smith stores in the world.

Design lovers have embraced his illustrations with great enthusiasm. They are acclaimed for their pureness and simplicity. Rop specifically chose for a wet on wet technique, which he first used during elementary school. The unpredictability of this technique perfectly matches the wild and uncontrollable character of his animals.

Rop’s work is hard to define; is it for kids, for art lovers or for both of them? To me, in this ambiguity lies the strength of his work.

Read my interview with Rop van Mierlo about the things that inspire him, his thoughts about the DDA 2011 nomination, his future plans and his dreams.

Our Housecat will also brighten up the shop windows of bookstores Athenaeum, Amsterdam (18/10/2011 - 24/10/2011) and Motta, Eindhoven (18/10/2011 – 30/10/2011).

Please note that the price is excluding shipping costs, these may vary according to the destination. I have made sure the poster is protected by a plastic cover and it will be send flat-packed, between 2 cardboard panels, to avoid any damage. Shipment will go through UPS.
